White Doyenné

The part White Doyenné (Doyenné blanc; Weisse Herbstbutterbirne) was introduced in Georgia together other foreign sorts Europe where it did not enjoy the popularity it deserves, occupying there a place only in the amateur assortment.

In Georgia this sort is often called Fall Duchesse.

Of Italian origin, white Doyenné seems to be one of the oldest among European cultivated sorts of pears.

It is an excellent dessert and table sort.

When young, the tree of White Doyenné grows rather vigorously, but when bearing starts its growth diminishes and it develops to moderate dimen lons, acquiring a wide pyramidal and very loose top. It is very requisitive to environment the soll must be fertile, rich, good in structure, the location warm,protected; the valuable qualities peculiar, to this sort msnifest themselves only under co ditions of high agricultural engineering.

White Doyenné is greatly subject to fungus diseases; blooming late, flowers selfsterile; succeeds well on the quince.

Fruit ripen in September and keep after picking 10-15 days without losing their excellent flavor.

Fruit medium in size, 60-70 mm., truncated-ovale in shape, narrowing towards both ends.

Skin thin, pale green, at using maturity of an attractive golden-yellow colour, sometimes with a blush on the sunny side.

Flesh tender, whitish, very juicy, with a muscate aroma.
