An e-name, which can be reassigned to another party if the original one no longer needs it, generally points to an e-number, which is persistent. In turn, the e-number points to one or more
URLs or to offline data, such as a telephone number or postal address. When an XDI-identified resource is located, an XDI browser will bookmark both its e-name and e-number. If the resource later changes its real-world name and thus its e-name, the user's bookmark is still valid because of the persistent e-number. Fully deployed, XDI could become the top level yellow and white pages directory system.
