Gigo Zaziashvili's Church Painting

The work is dedicated to the activities of a self-educated painter Gigo Zaziashvili. The love to painting, talent, capacity for work has made him an integral part of the Georgian advanced society of the late 19th - early 20th century. The article touches upon an aspect of Zaziashvili's creativity that has never before been dealt with – religious painting. Wall paintings made by the artist in churches of St. Nikolay's (Tbilisi) and Assumption of the Virgin (Shiomghvime) supplement with new strokes the portrait of the artist and at the same time reveal some tendencies and approaches, characteristic for the Georgian church painting of the first half of the 20th century.
