Jubilee
The article shortly represents the life and activity of the great scholar Vasil (Vaso) Abaev. He has made a solid contribution to Endo-European linguistics and also to the study of problems of the Ossetian language. In this point the most important work is the “Etymological Dictionary of the Ossetian language”.
V. Abaev also was a great scholar of literature (The Narth Epos, “The man in the panther’s skin”). He considered himself a disciple of N. Marr, A. Shanidze, G. Akhvlediani. V. Abaev was a real example of friendship between the Georgian and Ossetian poeples.
