The Mechanisms of Realization of Traditional Gender Conscience in a New Social Environment

The article reflects study of mechanisms of implementing traditional gender conscience in a new social environment. The author has enlarged the theoretical model of formation and behavior of gender conscience in the scope of the D. Uznadze theory of Set.

The author reviews contemporary stereotypes discovered by researches conducted upon 600 persons. Based on the analysis, the author assumed that the gender stereotype is a result of implementation of dispositional (fixed) sets, which represent basis of gender conscience in concrete social (social, political and cultural) climate. In the dispositional Sets the general correlation with the social environment, reflection of practical functions of women and men ensures matching of stereotypes to the new climate. This is discovered not by the change of their attitudes but by the change of their contents. The contents are laid around mechanism of stereotype - the major structure of the dispositional Set; especially around the general correlations, which are fixed practical functions of women and men in the process of historical co-habitation.

Thus stereotypes, particularly gender stereotypes represent one of the major psychical mechanisms of strengthening traditional system of co-habitation. Particularly, the stereotypes provide implementation, protection and holding of the main "rules" of co-habitation in a new environment, which has been developed as a gender conscience during the historical experience of a nation (or culture).
