The Poliphonic Cycles of A. Shaverzashvili

In the article is examined some of the qualities of poliphonic style of well-known Georgian composer A. Shaverzashvili on the example of two instrumental cycles, where imitative, non-imitative poliphonic forms, fugue and ostinative variations are analized.One more example of ostinative variatins is examined by author in the opera "The King Oidipo". Each component of this form is learnt in details and trere is an attempt to show their artistic-contantive and compositional-dramaturgical roles, achieved by their interaction. The author is searching comunications not only in cycle but in cycles, which helps her to show the composer's general stylistic characteristics. Also the attention is paid to the synthesis of poliphonic and homophonic traditions.
