The Biographical Dictionary of Georgian Athletes covers Georgians and citizens of Georgia who played an important role in the history of Georgian sport and won at least one prize in any sport competition. The Biographical Dictionary contains winners of Georgian and International competitions, including Soviet Games and Spartakiads.

The project aims at publishing the biographies of all Georgian athletes.

Biography

ილია თომაშვილი თბილისში, სვანეთის უბანში ცხოვრობდა და მაშინდელი ტრადიციის მიხედვით, ფსევდონიმად "სვანელი" აირჩია. ჯერ ქართულს ჭიდაობდა, მერე ძალა სცადა ფრანგულ ჭიდაობაში. წვრთნიდა ოლიმპიურ ჩემპიონ არსენ მეკოკიშვილს, რომელმაც შვიდჯერ მოიგო სამბისტთა საკავსირო ჩემპიონატი. 1940 წელს გამოსცა ქართული ჭიდაობის სახელმძღვანელო. იყო პირველი ქართველი მწვრთნელი და მსაჯი სამბოში.
